Description: Holmes Cay MHOBA Single Cask South Africa Rum (Peated Whisky Cask) is an ultra-limited, additive-free cane juice rum distilled in 2018 by MHOBA Rum Distillery in Malalane, South Africa, and aged entirely on site for six years. Produced from 100% estate-grown sugarcane juice, the rum undergoes open fermentation for 6–7 days using ambient yeast before being distilled in MHOBA’s custom high-reflux stainless steel and copper pot stills. This single-cask release is a blend of two marques—Select White (SW) and Select White Heavy Double Distillate (SW-HDD)—with the latter created by redistilling select cuts alongside fermented wash to amplify depth and intensity. The blended marques were aged in ex–South African peated whisky barrels from an undisclosed distillery and bottled non-chill filtered at 59% ABV with no added sugar, coloring, or additives. Aromas of banana bread, rice paper, and a touch of clementine oil lead into a richly textured palate of mocha-and-vanilla saltwater taffy, finishing with gentle, warming peat smoke. With only 474 bottles released to the U.S., this is a striking, boundary-pushing rum that beautifully bridges agricole character, high-ester intensity, and subtle whisky-cask smoke.
