Description
The DNA from Vergelegen Estate is a Bordeaux-style blend that very interestingly features Cabernet Franc as its main component. Part of the winery’s Reserve range, it took gold for its 2011 vintage at the San Francisco International Wine Competition. The wine shows berry fruit compote notes that are excellently complemented by chocolate and coffee. The tannins are soft and smooth with a finish that is satisfyingly drawn out. This red is best enjoyed with beef stews, pastas and Karoo rack of lamb. While drinking well now, it will still develop for 6 to 8 years from vintage.
Compote of berry fruit nicely rounded by chocolate and coffee notes. The tannin structure is round and soft with a lingering aftertaste. The wine displays a restrained sweetness to complement the complex flavours of dark berries, plum, liquorice and minerals. Enjoy now or over the next 6-8 years.
